Come learn a set of of tunes from Brittany, the northwest part of France, where there is an incredible dance tradition with tunes that range from groovy to beautiful to wildly energetic. This time we'll focus on the an dro, a type of tune that is simple but very satisfying to play. We'll learn a medley of tunes by ear, but I'll present the tunes in bite-sized pieces, so if you're new to learning by ear, there will be plenty of support. Toward the end, I'll pass out the sheet music for reference. In addition to the set of tunes, we'll work on the style and how to play it so it's danceable. We'll explore some chordal groove ideas and harmonies. If you have a really good time learning the tunes and want to take them a step farther, you'll be invited as a group to sit in with the band for a medley at one of the upcoming Brattleboro bal folk dances! I have put together a kit of my favorite tools that will be needed for this workshop, but students will also need to bring a sharp pair of scissors or snips which will also be available for purchase on day of class. The project we will be making for this class will be a sweet lavender sachet. Please note, if you are allergic to lavender, and would still like to take the workshop , accommodations can be made to keep the lavender separate from class.

What is slow stitching? Just that, it is a time you set aside to slow down, relax, and stitch! You may have a design, or idea in mind, but free flowing is more than notion; let your creativity take over and design as you go! A pattern will be available for a basic needle book and lots of fabrics and embroidery threads, as well,  to create your own, unique, work of art. Students are encouraged to bring any fabric or stitchery that they would like to incorporate into this project. The finished needle book will be approximately. 5“ x 8“, (5“ x 4“ closed.) and I will have several samples made for inspiration. Students will be required to bring their own small pair of sharp scissors or snips however, snips will be available for purchase on day of class as well. If you have taken one , several or all of the previous stitching classes this winter, this is a very fun and useful project for keeping your needles safe.

Time:  7-8:15

Cost:  $20-$25 sliding scale

Registration:  pre-registration required by 3/14/23 at  https://bit.ly/March21workshop

*There is a 10 person pre-registration minimum requirement to hold this class.*

All instruments welcome. At least basic proficiency required.

Come learn a couple of waltzes in contrasting styles based in the Celtic/French/contra dance traditions. I love how waltzes can range from spacious and beautiful to wildly propulsive. We'll explore phrasing, backup ideas, chords, and harmonies to bring these tunes to life. We'll experience the joy of playing waltzes together in ensemble, with a variety of parts available so that less experienced musicians can be successful, while more experienced musicians can be challenged. We'll start out working by ear and transition to sheet music as time goes on, but if you're less comfortable with one of those learning styles than the other, there will be plenty of support. This will be a safe, nurturing, and fun learning environment. I'm really excited to share some cool tunes in a beautiful local space! Let's fill this place up with music!

Festival of Trees 2023
Decorated Christmas Tree
First Annual Festival of Trees

Date: December 1,2,3, 2023

Place: Governor Hunt House Community Center

December 1 - 3, 2023 at the Governor Hunt House & Community Center in Vernon Vermont.  This three day festival offers the community a chance to win completely decorated trees donated by area businesses. The trees will feature themed decorations as well as merchandise and gift certificates from the sponsor businesses. The trees will be raffled off and proceeds support the work of the Governor Hunt House & Community Center.

Over the weekend the historic home will be opened up for the community to walk through and admire the festive decorations while also participating in caroling, a bonfire, bake sale, photos with Santa and more.

Tree sponsorship is open now: We invite area businesses, organizations and individuals to become sponsors of the first annual Festival of Trees at the Governor Hunt House — the area’s only Festival of Trees and a great marketing opportunity!

We ask sponsors to provide and decorate a holiday tree, trimmed with decorations of your choosing — we encourage ornaments that reflect a theme related to your business or purpose. In addition, we invite you to supply one or more generous gifts to be placed under their tree — merchandise or gift certificates.

For our upcoming Festival we have a lot of wonderful sponsors donating trees as well as goods and services from their businesses! (List of 2023 Sponsors)

During the festival, all trees, together with the gifts under them, will be raffled to festival attendees. The festival takes place in conjunction with Vernon’s long-running Home for the Holidays Craft Fair, directly across the street at the elementary school. We plan to widely promote these events and attract strong attendance.

Sponsorship is FREE, with the exception of the Presenting and Supporting sponsor levels.

Follow this link for Sponsorship Information.

Cost includes everything to make the pumpkin and mouse, including the needle. Students will need to bring their own felting surface and it would be helpful if they had a multi needle tool. If you don’t have a felting surface or multi needle Deb will have them available for purchase at the class. Deb will have a needle and thread and a pair of scissors to share but if you have a small pair of sharp scissors you are willing to bring it would be helpful.
